Installation Tomplayer Carminat Tomtom 4,8/5 210 reviews

The Carminat TomTom is the first carminat to be developed from a base known to all: the nomads of the TomTom brand. This is the first time that the launch of a new Carminat has been so publicized. Thus the news has been relayed by the vast majority of internet media but also paper. The notoriety of TomTom is not foreign to it.

The strength of this system is obviously its price: less than 500 €. Never seen on a fixed navigation system. Renault has been innovative about navigation, with this system the brand will make noise and happy. It’s the return of a color navigation on the Clio (missing since the CNI 1 on Clio II) and which is more standard on high finishes, bravo! This system is standard on all Scénic III (not on long versions).

A version TomTom Live appeared in 2011, this version brought a built-in SIM card to enjoy the excellent HD Live Traffic TomTom. Unfortunately since 2017, if no subscription has been taken in the last 3 years, the SIM card is permanently deactivated. We then only benefit from TMC traffic information which is not very reliable.

Istruzioni per l'installazione

Hi there.

Are you a native speaker? Would you be willing to help us?
We are very appreciative of translations or pictures/screenshots to help optimize our installation guide. Or any other advice.
Please don't hesitate to write us an email: info@scdb.info. Thanks in advance.

I. Download speed camera files

  1. Load and save the file tomtom.zip to a folder at your hard disk.
Note: renault.zip includes the same files as tomtom.zip.
  2. In our example we saved the file tomtom.zip to the folder “C:/temp”.
  3. Unzip the file with any program you like to a folder of your choice. For example, we choose 'C:/temp/tomtom'.
  4. The folder “C:/temp/tomtom” now contains two files as *.bmp and *.ov2.

II. Install POI files by using software MyDrive

Use that installation method when your TomTom device is not recognized as flash drive.
At first, load and install software MyDrive from TomTom.
An account for TomTom is also required. Create a TomTom account if you don't have one.

Note: Although the POI file is very small, MyDrive needs at least 400 MB of free space in your navigation device (internal drive). To sync OV2 files with your navigation device, your device needs at least 400 MB of free space. The software MyDrive will be unable to sync when you have less free space. We recommend to delete some countries/maps and POI files which are not in use to get more free space. Or upgrade your TomTom device with a larger memory.

    Guide: Managing Community content

  1. Switch on your TomTom and connect it to the computer.

  2. Open MyDrive and sign in your TomTom account.

  3. Click Route Planner > My Places > POI files > Import POI file.
Click Select File and choose OV2 file.
    Click Import.
Repeat these steps for all OV2 files.
  4. The files will be transfered automatically to the TomTom if it is connect.

III. Activate alerts

  1. Deactivate the TomTom Live Services (Main menu > Services > Speedcams).

  2. In TomTom Menu Main > Settings > POI settings < Warn when approaching a POI choose the SCDB speedcams. Choose the distance and the sound for your warning.
  3. We do not recommend to activate “only warn when POI is on your route”.
    Why?
Our speed camera database works with an accuracy of +/- 20m. Therefore it is possible that the TomTom device won't recognise a speed camera because the program would assume that the speed camera is on the other side of the road due to a slight deviation. In addition there are also many speed cameras that are on the left side of the road but work in both directions or can be swivelled. Therefore, please don't activate this item and all speed cameras will be included in the warnings!
